Moving to SSD drive on Dell Latitude windows 64 bit
I am trying to upgrade my work hard drive (80 GB) because I was running out of space to a Samsung SSD drive (256 GB). I created a system image and a system restore disk in preparation using windows tools. Then I swapped the drives tying to get the SSD to be the primary. No luck. Then I swapped back the old drive (my failsafe) but it failed to boot as well, suspect MBR was damaged. So I reimaged old drive to a personal windows 7 image. but that didn't help, though it proved the drive was usable.
I now have copied the system image data onto the old drive from the SSD drive using the command prompt in the system restore session. So I have a system image on both the new and old drives.
I have the old drive connected with cables to the USB port. The SSD is installed in the laptop. I am trying to use the system restore disk to restore the backup image on the USB drive (old hard disk) to the SSD drive. I keep getting an error with multiple potential issues:
1. A probable system disk may have been excluded by mistake (I don't think so)
2. A USB disk may have been assigned as a system disk (seems possible, but their solution doesn't work)
3. An invalid disk may have been assigned as a system disk (seems possible, but their solution doesn't work)
Next step I want to try is to move the data to a network drive to see if that works but I am not optimistic.
