WMP problem or video card/driver? WMP crashes...

The pattern is that it is usually fine with playing music, and usually 1 video file. After that 1 video file, or randomly while viewing the library while playing music, it crashes the whole computer essentially. The screen blacks out and every 30 seconds cycles through off, the "step" up grey, and a washed out color, usually blue but lately kinda-orange.

I've tried doing the Windows troubleshooter for WMP. Uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, restarted. Windows Update is up to date. I even updated my mobo's integrated graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4950 to CCC version 12.8. I also updated my codec pack (since 1 of the vids in question was a .mov). Nothing is helping...

    Help? Other suggestions?

Have you tried updating your BIOS? There are several for system stability (latest version is 2301) for your mobo. Have you updated your chipset driver? You may need to check that with AMD for a current version.

Have you tried using another media player?

There are many alternative media players available.

If a different player has the same problems, it could indicate an OS or hardware issue.

I believe PowerDVD was also doing this with DVDs/BluRays... But I'm just going to update the mobo drivers first. They are really out of date, wow! Thanks for the heads up =)

All I've gotten through so far is just the BIOS updates, nothing else, but already my WMP is back to behaving exactly as it should! Thank you for kicking my butt to get my mobo updated. Sorry I hadn't been keeping it updated myself. ^.^>
