    Windows 7 Random Restarts and Freezes

    Hey, I've been having this problem for a little while now and have had a hard time pin-pointing the source.

    It seems to be caused by the network card I have (look in my specs). Whenever I stream videos using ORB the computer will reset what seems to be about every 10 minutes. When I stop streaming, it stays on. Sometimes I'll leave it idle for about 6 - 8 hours, get home and notice that the mouse isn't on and the machine is just locked up. The only way to recover is to reboot.

    This did this with previous releases of 7 but I thought it would be fixed in the RTM. I have the most recent drivers for my NIC.

    If you need any other info about my machine that isn't posted in my specs, let me know.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    go into event viewer (type event viewer in search) go to th windows logs, application tab. Look for errors (they have red "X" in left column) see if any relate to either the NIC, or the rebooting issue. let us know what the results are

    thanks

    Okay, there are no critical errors related to the NIC. There was one critical error and I talked to a guy from Microsoft about it. He said he can't diagnose the problem without the memory dump file. I enabled the dump file to be written to, but it was not appearing on my system.

    Here's the error:
    Code:
    - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
    - <System>
      <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power" Guid="{331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4}" />

      </EventData>
      </Event>
    I've tried re-seating my RAM. The NIC that I'm using now is on-board so I tried a different one and it still isn't working. I had the computer reset again this morning while I was transferring files to my USB thumbdrive while burning an audio CD. So, I'm starting to think it could be my HD or Power Supply.

    Any thoughts?

    Look at what the "description" field of that event says in your case.

    This wasn't a BSOD (bugcheck). It was a reboot without a bluescreen. That also explains why there's no memory dump to be found afterwards.

    So, that means its a hardware issue, right? I'm thinking the PSU might need to be changed out for a more powerful one.

    i7 920 ~ 130W proc, three 2GB sticks of DDR3, and a TB hdd and dvd-RX
    so I'm thinking : Underpowered
