I was looking around the forums for a fix for a problem I previously had and I read that we can up date Windows 7 Build 7100 to 7200 or something like that, is this a simple update or is it a big thing like re-installing the OS?
Just wondering if it is worth upgrading or not? :)

It's very simple and generally speaking the later versions have more compatibility and bugs fixed.
But at this point, you would be well advised to upgrade to the RTM which is v. 7600 since it is pretty widely available already if you know where to look, and in less than 30 days initial grace/trial period, W7 will be launced, i.e., generally available so you have plenty of time to get and add a valid license key, even without using any of the 3 30 days rearms of the grace period that are available to you. So you could use W7 RTM (7600) for 120 days without a license and just get a license before those 120 days are over.
As far as upgrading to the RTM from the RC, it's also very simple, but there is a simple special procedure you must follow outlined by MS at Engineering Windows 7 : Delivering a quality upgrade experience
Most people will advise doing a clean install of the RTM version, however. This is always a good idea, but in many cases the upgrade procedure from the RC to the RTM works pretty well. It might be worth trying and if it works out for you . . . great. If not, you can always clean install again.
But right now with the version i have i have it untill like 2010 something wouldn't it be cutting my time short if i upgrade to 7600?

Yes but so what, you are going to have to upgrade to W7 eventually anyway. You want to milk the RC for every day you can, that's fine too. But I really don't see the point unless you are planing to buy a computer preloaded with w7 in a few more months or so and are just trying to get through that period without buying W7 separately. That I can understand. Up until the RTM "Branch," with most of the newer versions of the RC you can just do a straight upgrade install over the original RC without having to reinstall your programs and the original RC license key you got from MS will still work to activate the updated version.

if you are 7100 (you can check by typing winver in search) it expires 03/2010, 7600 has (with re-arms) 120 days so thats somewhere around the end of January. Not much difference

To be honest, I got a pc mag and it came with windows 7 and i was just like *Coool New OS for free* and didn't really think of what would happen when it expires I have the vista cd that came with my computer so i could probley go back to that but i think i would rather buy the new windows when it comes out if i am going to have to install a OS again anyway.. if i install the 7600 will it be as simple as installing a program then just running it or will it need to delete all of my things and then ill have to copy everything back from my external harddrive and stuff?

If you upgrade install, all your programs, settings and data will be transferred automatically, although you may have to reinstall a driver or two as well as 3rd party antivirus and firewall apps, (if you use those). If you clean install, you have to back up everything to external media like an external drive, reinstall your apps, then you can use WET (windows easy transfer) to transfer over your data and settings. But note that you have to run WET on the old setup before you clean install.
Whichever way you go, you should always back up your data anyway, just in case something goes wrong.
