Windows 7: PC hanging forever prior to Password entry

PC hanging forever prior to Password entry

I am trying to help a friend out, he's running W7HP 32bit anyway, recently when he starts his PC, it gets to the blue screen area (Not a BSOD) just before the time when the usual password entry prompt usually appears but instead it simply hangs there forever, with the status cursor (blue animated circle) revolving with the words: "Please wait...."

Firstly I figured he may have a large W7 update in the final stage of the install but usually there is white text giving the update progress/status. He claims that he has done nothing unusual or installed anything recently except for creating a Password recovery disk.

Could someone please run a few possibilities by me, as to why this might be happening?

I would appreciate it very much,
Thanks for your time & effort.

Locked out by entry password
This morning I typed in my entry password as I've done since I got my computer. This message, "The user name or password is incorrect" came up, thus I wasn't allowed access. I checked my entry by retyping the password a number of times, checking to make sure the caps key wasn't on, etc. etc. When I...

How can I make my PC log-on, password-entry only?
Basically, if you did not understand the thread's title, I am having a recent 'what I'd call "problem"', with my PC. As I boot up my PC, my log-on usually immediately directs me to a screen, where it told me which account I was about to log-in onto, then all I'd have to do is enter the password and...

Can the Password Entry box be made default over Fingerprint login?
Hey there guys, its 2 Bunny again. I've got a new question for the community today: On computers with Biometric Fingerprint scanners that are setup to log you in to Windows, I also have a password. In some situations it is easier for me to enter a password, and it will still let you login with...
