Why would anybody post in our Seven Forum with over a quarter of million members using Windows 7 such a question. Of course we like Windows 7.
ER . . . does that follow ? The fact that "over a quarter of a million" member use Windows 7 doesn't mean that "over a quarter of a milion" members LIKE it! As I have said elsewhere, you can't return an OS if you don't like it - and so reduce the figure of "happy users". Not even selling an unliked, unwanted OS on Ebay would do that.
    Just a thought.

Oh no! I have just seen that I was described as a "Junior Member". If that means new it is misleading. I am 70 years old so I have reclassified myself as "Old Fogie Member". No longer a whipper-snapper upstart, eh? Then again, as anyone who understands the system will realise, I am not a Windows 7 Professional either. As most will realise, that is the OS version I had to buy (having paid for the basic Home version with the computer) to be able to get XP Mode!

NOT really replying to myself, but I would like to insert a comment into the thread that has nothing to do with it.
It is the practice of someone (or an automatic part of the forum set-up) that converts words in posts into links to advertisers. I suppose that is how the forum is paid for.
But while Windows 7 Professional produced an innocuous link, I have inadvertently advertised a home workers business by misnaming the original OS version that I had as the Home version of Windows 7. Didn't want to do that.
ADDED: I hope this comment - about underscored links - doesn't contravene Forum Rule 13. You see, I did read them when I joined the Forum !

Dabber junior member refers to your 9 posts not your age, there are alot of 60 to 70 year olds on this forum so don't use that as an excuse not to learn something new Win 7, old is XP, a company can't continue to support old OS's with new tech coming online every month, they also have to keep up with the time's. I also thought XP was great until i learned Win 7 and all the advantages it had over XP.

I do know what you mean about the words becoming links, but I have not seen that on this site. There are links here that the poster puts in like this Clean Install Windows 7 I don't think that is what you are referring to. Could you point me to one of those? Thanks,

Wow! There are far more replies than I expected (not that I was being provacative). I thought there might be a lot of irate comments from people saying they liked Windows 7, but there are some that seem (almost) to agree with me!
Some of the pro-Windows 7 are good and you can respect them (their writers, I mean). Others are plain silly and sarcastic which you can ignore. At least, I will. (If the cap fits, wear it). I suspect I have rattled a few chains daring to question Windows 7.
    I wonder how many of the pro-7s are Microsoft employees? No, I mustn't think that . . . !

I have downloaded Classic Shell (thanks for the information, Indianatone). Mind you, the Start Menu seems to have kicked in before I agreed to it or "asked" it to. [Is there an easy way to go back to the Windows 7 interface? In case I need to?] PS I have since found the uninstall instructions !
I should say that it wasn't that aspect I was getting uptight about. It was just that, for instance, I liked the My Documents (index) page in XP which contained icons that looked like small filing cabinet files and from which you could easily select the file/folder you wanted. The larger, fancier ("A4") folders aren't so accommodating, it seems to me. [I have since found and used the medium icons setting which takes me back a step nearer to the "filing cabinet files" icons.]

Windows XP may be 11 years old (none of us are getting any younger) but I liked it, as I might have mentioned, but just because something is new it doesn't mean it is better. I have a number of other "upgraded" software programmes which I find as simplified as 7 and, therefore, difficult to use. I won't name them. Suffice it to say that I had no trouble with, and liked, previous versions of the various software items which weren't dumbed down.

I only had Windows 7 because I needed to upgrade my computer (seven years old and three generations out of date!) and 7 was the only OS available. I needed more powerful hardware so that I could use my Pinnacle Studio video editing programme - otherwise I would have stuck with the old computer.
O.K., Pinnacle is old (like me). But it was - as many will know and others will not - taken over by Avid and now Corel. Both companies have made changes (again, I'm not sure all were for the better). But if manufacturers don't bring out new systems how are they going to keep sales up? Who wants an 11-year-old system? (well, I don't mind). Without sales the manufacturers wouldn't be in business to build the furture software and OSs.

P.S. I forgot to say . . . I DO have Windows XP on my computer thanks to help from my local IT shop who transferred one of the three hard drives (the other two will need special adapter to make the connections) from my old computer. This gave me all the old files - but not the old icons . However, I need to find a quicker way into it.
From the Windows 7 "opening page" I have to follow this route to access one of my websites (for instance): Computer > Local Disk (E) > Documents and Settings > (my name) > My Documents > My Webs > (website name). There has to be a quicker, more way of doing it! Of course, I have to click on "Editing with Microsoft FrontPage" (aaargh, another old system!) to edit the web pages.
Fool around with the advanced options, you can choose the 7 start menu to appear or not by several combinations of point and click. I have attached my saved settings from a 64 bit windows for perusal. You have to sometimes enable the explorer bars, see the readme for details. Save the original settings as default so you can return to them.

I like Windows 7. Best OS I've used to date. I went from XP to 7 (never had Vista). I wait and see what people are saying about a new OS or piece of hardware before I "upgrade". I've read alot of negative things about Vista so that I never bothered with it. I'm also reading alot of bad things about 8. Some people do like it but the majority doesn't.

I'm sticking with Windows 7. I need a proper desktop interface.
Yes, I skipped Vista. A newspaper advertisement for it seemed to imply that it was mainly for home entertainment (TV, etc). Although, I would concede it would have to be more than that. Or was that just the difference between it and XP?
But, each to his own. If you like Windows 7, good for you. Enjoy it.

Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to. But I only objected to the Home Workers link. Nothing wrong with home workers but I wasn't inclined to publicise the business.
The post I was referring to had several links inserted in the body of the text, plus two links at the bottom of the post. All very well, but people might think there was some endorsement of the products by the person writing the post. There should be a disclaimer somewhere saying the links added to a post are not necessarily endorsed by the writer of the post. They might be (especially Windows 7 in some posts!)

The italicised paragraphs are out of date. The missing post is #31. But having solved that I have found a mystery. The excess underscored links only appear if you are not signed in to the Forum. Sign in and the links disappear. That is why I couldn't spot the post on a quick trawl through the thread. Strange.

I've been through all the posts twice now and can't find the one I mean anywhere. I must have been censored, deleted, Moderated . . .
I have even looked in another thread in case I was getting mixed up. But no, it WAS this thread, I'm sure. I was talking about my new computer, Windows 7 Professional; Windows Home Premium (except I omitted the word Premium); XP Mode; Pinnacle Studio. Do they ring any bells? I have searched for them all to no avail. Please Mr Moderator, if you deleted the post, tell me and put me out of my misery!

Junior seems a funny word to use for someone new to the Forum. New, Beginner, Novice . . . would all be better. Doesn't "9 posts" imply that? How many posts do you have to post to become a Member? I have had a computer since the 1990s (Windows 95 was it?) How long do I have to work with computers to be an Established Member?
Of course, Junior etc only applies to my membership of this Forum not my IT experience.
No, I'm not using my age for not learning about Windows 7. I would like to learn - after all I have spent more than £200, for Home Premium and Professional versions and would like to get my money's worth out of it.
But, as an example of what I need to learn (and, yes, I have the official user manual, and some others) are the libraries I mentioned before. A message says: "No folders have been included in this library [Include a Folder]" I try to and get a new message "Path does not exist. Check the path and try again". Still no luck. I seem to be going round in circles.
Old it may be, but I didn't have that kind of problems with XP. I bought Windows 7 to use it, not do battle with it.
