Well i get ir you dont like windows 7.. that is your choice.. many people i know like 7. xp was work horse for many years its time to move now.. because IMHO windows 7 is great successor.
If you have problem with 7 you can try to solve it there is a lot of helpful people here. but if you just want to complain how bad 7 is and how wonderful xp is all bunnies and rainbows.. there is no point to try and help you im sorry. Opinion is your freedom but dont over do it many people here can get your point from one or two posts. dont make it flame or troll wars. and dont forget its windows 7 forum not xp.
Bunnies and rainbows? Where are we going with this?
I didn't say 7 was bad. I found XP easy to use and I have difficulty with 7 (which I seem to be fighting against all the time).
I know it's a Windows 7 forum (I can read). That was what I was talking about, but that doesn't stop me mentioning XP. We have had the full range of previous Windows OSs. Are you going to object to their titles being mentioned? Someone even mentioned Windows 8 !
Two posts and you're out, is that it? No further points can be answered? You want the last word? O.k. I get it . . .
Yeah I know what you mean Dabber it's a bit of a learning curve that's all mate I think you will find it gets easier like anything else in life. Just take it steady and relax my friend it will come - trust me!

Do you remember your teens I do and I knew EVERYTHING then!! LOL!! wasn't that a learning curve? - downwards after 20

In fact I am a bit like you in some ways like it has to be done yesterday LOL!!
At least you missed out on Vista my friend - that is a real plus -I still have the scars

Now have you considered a dual XP / 7 boot? Then you would have the best of both worlds. I did it with 8 when it was beta and well didn't like it - a bit too yuppy for me.
Anyway 7 has panned out to be just what I want though I still have my old XP's for old times sake.:)

I am not familiar with MS FrontPage (MSFP), but can you not save your website pages in MSFP?

Then all you would have to do is open MSFP, then to File, then Open or Recent Projects/Documents in MSFP to open your projects/websites.

You could try using the Documents or Recent Items areas located to the right of the Start Menu.
With Documents you would still have to hunt a little, but with Recent Items your most recent work should be there.

If you need more entries for Recent Items: Recent Items - Change Maximum Number to Display in Start Menu Since you have Win 7 Pro you could use either option.

For your existing projects just drag and drop the lot you have in My Documents to MSFP.
To answer another post while I am "calling in", I AM trying to let this thread go. But I keep having another look at the Forum and see something worth commenting on. Must be well over my two-posts limit by now . . . !
This is just to say that MSFP is another old software programme. So old that it is dead, and Microsoft's successor programme (sorry, I've forgotten its name) is up to its fourth or fifth version. I haven't tried that one, I still like MSFP . . . . So the pages are saved in MSFP as an editing programme. Or did you mean an MSFP folder?
How do I keep it going? Whenever I need a new page on one of the websites I do, I copy and paste a previous one, which saves setting up a page all over again.
But thanks for the helpful advice, Anak. I'll use the ideas.

Talking about dropping this post, I had an idea for a new one, but I'm not sure whether to start it or not. It might be thought to be too twee!
It was going to be along the lines of "What do you use Windows 7 for?" (a sort of parallel to this one). Playing games, etc, or serious uses?
Let me start (and if it takes off I'll see of one of the Windows 7 Forum moderators, etc, can transfer it to a new thread!)

I use my computer (XP or Windows 7) to do FIVE websites (I won't name them at this stage): my personal one; one for the local museum; one for a group fighting to save a 17th walled garden under threat of being built on; one for a local hospital league of Friends; and one that publicises local-subject DVDs made by myself and other amateur videographers. The local church benefits from any profits of my videos (I don't make a penny; in fact doing them costs me mnoney.) Of course, I use the computer to edit the videos and put them on to DVDs. On top of that the usual e-mails, letters and photo editing. I wouldn't use it for games, even if I had the time.
If you don't want this thread to start, don't reply to this post . . .!

    Treated as normal files

How does Windows 7 not handle read-only files correctly?
W7 treats "Read-only" files as normal files (WMP 12 completely ignores the "Read-only" attribute too).
Every W7 PC I've used does this.

Office and 3rd party software respect the "Read-only" attribute.

In W7, the only way I've found to duplicate the "Read-only" attribute functionality, is to set the "System" attribute on the files.

XP treated "Read-only" files as a special type of file.
In addition to the normal delete confirmation, you had to separately confirm that you wanted to delete or move "Read-only" files.

When XP was my only OS, I always set "Read-only" on files that I didn't want to accidentally move or delete.

The bottom line is that as far as W7 is concerned, "Read-only" does not mean READ ONLY.

Hiyya Dabber now I have an idea of what you use your computer for - before I wasn't sure as you said does anyone use theirs for anything serious.
Now I have to show my ignorance here and say I have no idea what that MSFP means
Now like you I do a lot of stuff for free for my workmates who are paid a good deal less than me and generally cannot afford the cost of techies or even a machine. I have about 8 XP machines lined up (old school ones they were going to trash) - that I can convert quite easily into 7 machines. So I have rough idea of where you are coming from in the sense that you give up your time for others like we do

Now if you don't mind could you tell me what that MSFP is (I did Google but as usual nothing I could understand) and what exactly does it involve. I can't think of anything that an XP can do that a 7 machine couldn't - and I am not trying to be obstructive - cos there is always more than one way to skin a cat eh?

Your suggestion form starting a thread is far from twee mate in fact probably a good idea and especially if your main concern is video editing etc there are stacks of really good graphics folks in here that would only be too pleased to help out. No I am not suggesting you know nothing but like anyone else - myself included - would be mad to say they know everything. Now I know there are some in here who think I am (and probably right LOL!!) but hey that is just me:) woo hoo for the oldies err yep the oldies!!

Don't be embarrased - I hadn't used MSFP before Anak did in his post, #109. It is simply an acronym for Microsoft FrontPage (in my case, version 2003), and it is a webpage creating/editing programme. It's how you produce the pages that you then uopload to a webhost - a remote computer which stores all the website pages so that website visitors can access the page(s) without encroaching on my personal computer where I created the pages.
I feel I am making your confusion worse rather than helping. But I hope not . And if you knew all I have just said - but not what MSFP was - I'm sure there are other forum users who might have been enlightened.
In fact, websites and voluntary work for the local Museum take up more of my time than video editing. (That's just being accurate not awkward). I have two DVDs to produce in the next few weeks. My personal tasks are way down a Far Too Much To Do List (that used to be a To Do List) and seem to be stuck there. I'm sure you have a similar list.

I used the word twee about a possible new thread because of all the Forum users who think forums are just for discussing serious stuff and problems, not for being light-hearted.
I also thought that people might not like having their uses of Windows 7 compared with those of others. Who would admit: "I use Windows 7 exclusively for playing on-line games all day long. I can't get enough of them." ? No-one I suspect.
Now then . . . I said I wouldn't launch the new thread unless someone replied to the post where I announced it. Does your post count as such a reply warranting the creation of the new thread . . .?
Or shall we keep it as part of THIS thread and squeeze out all that nonsense about trolls ?
Wow, 14 pages and 132 posts. I never thought a simple question would lead to this.

Is the problem that you're not able to install Front Page to WIn7? Because I've installed it several times and got it working fine - I believe in XP or Win2000 Compatibility Mode. It might have even been the one time I reached all the way back to Win98 Compat mode. Try it.

He he how wrong can you be mate:) Look if it wasn't light hearted I wouldn't be in here be assured of that cos I left my last usual forum for that very reason. I have never been treated in anything but a civilised and good natured manner in here.

Life is a short thing should be a good thing:)

As for the serious stuff mate you have some of the best there is on board - me I'm just a mushroom (well I smell like the stuff they grow them in LOL!!)
