Startup Repair Bug, CHKDSK on boot and occasionally beep at post?

    Hi all,

I need your advice. Is my harddisk failing? This problems started many months ago. On and off.

    1. It started with display driver crash and restart on recovery when visiting youtube website. It lead to bsod if you continue using without restarting. Next it detect hd6950 as 6800 Series in dxdiag after system restore.

    2. It progress to loud beep at post screen slowly booting to windows 7. With lag delay in opening program at windows. Which i have to manual restart.

    3. Startup Repair occur few months later. Sometime it repair the error. Sometime prompt to restore before booting to windows 7.

    4. Soon Startup Repair mention unable to repair or restore. Prompt send or dont send report. Click finish to shutdown. After i power on it boot to windows 7 normally.

    5. After i run avast on boot. Which send most to virus chest including msvcr80.dll and other system files. After sometimes avast service stop running despite restart.

    6. Reinstall avast run fine sometime but had lead to itunes stop running without msvcr80.dll.

    7. Reformat my c drive and resinstall win 7. Without touching system reserved and 2 partition.

    8. Successfully reinstall but my d drive have switch position with e drive. Meaning the name of drive change drive letter. As well as the files inside. Will this cause issue?

    9. But windows 7 update have failed updates. Leading to auto chkdsk fixing some missing and replacing them. Next day windows 7 failed to launch with bad_msconfig on bsod.

    10. Reformat and Reinstall windows 7 on c drive again. This time all windows 7 update install smoothly.

But i still have single loud beep at post screen leading to lag windows 7 as well as startup repair when i restart computer sometime.

Now startup repair occur when i power on. Which say cannot fix have to shutdown. Repower on it back to windows 7 normally.

    11. new problem arrive where it start chkdsk automatically where it say $I30 index message.

    12. i cannot complete chkdsk when i schedule it to run. It say c drive volume is clean but freeze at that point. However other partition drive chkdsk manage to complete. Just issue with c drive.

If you think your HDD is bad or going bad run this diagnostic : http://http://www.hdtune.com/

Install CrystalDiskInfo - Software now to read the SMART data on your HD from desktop.

I'd also run the HD Diagnostic for your brand HD. Then you need to get a successful Disk Check
even if you have to run Option Two from the System Recovery Options Command Line.

Then test RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes or overnight to stress it.

If you strayed far from the Best Practices given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail) then I'd do it over following the steps closely to get it perfect, but this time wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command to get a clean slate overwriting any possible corrupt boot code.

Also i ran seatool on dos it failed short test and long test. Long test with more than 70 errors and bad sectors.

    Is the tools reliable?

I had auto chkdsk for c drive and it mention

    sorting index $i30 in 21584 amd 94332.

Follow by replacing alot filesname in 21584 and 94332. Restart and boot win 7 normally. But sometime follow by startup repair after chkdsk.

    HDD going to die?

If it fails Seatools long CD test and can't run ChkDsk, then unless Seatools CD long test can report repairs made to clear the errors and Disk Check can run, you are running with a failing HD.
