M1330 laptop won't hibernate - just returns to desktop

Hello illustrious forum.

I have a Dell XPS M1330, Win7 64bit RC1, and have never been able to hibernate it. It sleeps fine, but when I press the hibernate button, the screen fades out, turns off momentarily, then comes back to the desktop. If I have "require password on wakeup" turned on, it will come back to the locked login screen.

The drivers are up to date on windows update. I have tried every combination in the "Advanced Power Settings" window, I have tried powercfg -h off and on, and setting size to 100% but nothing helped.

I'm going to be traveling soon, and having the hibernate option would help a great deal. Can anyone help?

Hi, go here and make sure that you have everything that should be up to date, for your machine. If not, download and install. I hope this helps you.

Hi ieatfood (what else should one eat?)

Goto devicemanager, (type devmgmt.msc in the start searchbar)
on the energy tab of your (cable) network card, check if the the "allow ... to save energy" box is ticked.

Do the same for bluetooth.

Now try hybernate again.

Thank you for your advice, but no luck so far.

squonksc: I went through every entry in device manager, and made sure every "allow the computer to turn of this device" was checked.

jfar: All the drivers on the dell site are older than Win7... I'm pretty sure my drivers are newer, but I could go through and try to install some older drivers if you think that will help.

Hi, sorry . Will you type into the startbox search, Sys and at the top of the start menu you will see System Information, open it and then take a snip of the first page and post it up here thanks.

Hello, here is a very easy way to upload files and pictures, I hope this helps you.

Hi, according to your Bios there seems to be a newer version at the Dell site that I sent you to. I recommend that you start by updating that first, and we will see if there is any change.

Just a heads up:

If the OP updates his BIOS without a Dell technician explicitly asking him, he loses all warranty.

Well we certainly don't want that to happen to ieatfood do we, so ieatfood, maybe you
would like to get in touch with a Dell technician and tell him the story so far, and see will he give you permission to update your Bios to a newer one .

Thank you for the concern, but my warranty is expired. And I updated my bios in the past.

I tried to update with this new bios, even though they're both the same version (A15), and it did allow me to do an update, but the date nor version in System Information did not change.

Any other ideas? Any specific drivers that tend to cause this, or is there some way to repair the hibernation files or something (although it's not even trying...)?
