My understanding is the monitor can be used with either. Of course touching it with Windows 7 only creates finger prints. The monitor and the operating system both must be touch capable before touch will work. There for touch monitor and Windows 8.

Except Windows 7 does with with touch monitors. Just not as well or touch-friendly as Windows 8.

Would you use one if it was within reach??

I wouldn't; it would too hard (and painful) on the shoulders and take longer than a mouse. With a mouse, with a few inches of movement (and the amount of movement is adjustable), I can go from one side of the screen to the other. With a touch screen, one has to move the entire distance across the screen (good luck adjusting that!)

I am very pleased with win 8 touch monitor, it works great. I prefer it to the conventional way of using a mouse, it is much more fun

I was just scrolling through Apps at the Google Play store last night and my touch pen kept triggering a selection instead of scrolling. Very annoying. There needs to be a wide scroll bar for touch.
