Windows 7: Cant open Protected operating files

Any other suggestions ?

Hi All

I installed Seven a month ago and started with the default User account setup. 48 hrs ago I activated the Admin account and proceeded to move prefs and files over to the admin. I used the Files & Parameters Tranfer Wizard; it created a 3.1G file and moved favorites and stuff nicely but now I find myself locked-out of system directories.

I know now I shouldn't have done that but it seemed like a good idea at the time; who knew it would mess the access parameters... Let this be a warning for other users.

I tried tweaking security properties to reclaim ownership using the instructions above to no avail.

Any other ideas I could try before I reinstall the whole shabang from scratch?

TIA

Im not sure if this will work or not, but have you performed a system restore??? If you do end up reinstalling, make an image of your drive/partition so if this happens again, you wont have this problem...

Good Luck

Yes, you should not have enabled the Administrator account. There is no need for you to do that, not a smart thing to do at all.

I was heading there until I went and looked at my 2K8 setup on a different machine... Lo and behold: the same problem popped-up !

It had to be something else...

I found the answer. It's not an ownership or secpol bug. It's The New Way of Doing Things since Vista

All is well; Thanks for your time.
