Installed windows 7 on system reserved partition

6 Minutes Ago #1 (permalink) Hi guys,

It was my first time installing windows 7 so i didn't know anything about system reserved partition.
I assumed i should install OS on it so i extended system reserved partition to 60GB and installed windows on it

Now my c: drive, with windows on it, is labeled system reserved.

Everything is working fine, but i don't know if there could be problems in the future.
If so, is there a way to fix it without a reinstall

That`s a crazy way to do it and not the right way, but hey......

Did you use one of the tutorials and follow it correctly ?

If you do not create a partition and install windows, it will make a SR partition and a C: partition with your OS.

Your way is quite a new twist. Just get rid of the system reserve label and see if it reboots.

I would reinstall again , delete all partitions and just install windows to the 1 deleted partition and all will be perfect.:)

system reserved will be created automatically if:
    • drive is completely empty. win7 is installed in other partition then.
    How did you create it?

So now "system reserved" partition (bootmgr and bootmenu) and OS partition are merged? Quite normal... same as I have. Give that partition another label something like "Win7" that's describes more wat's used for.

Post screenshot of disk management as well please

I enlarged system reserved partition during installation from 100MB to 60GB and installed OS on it, and left the remaining unallocated space for data. In disk management i assigned the unallocated space a letter D:.
So now i have C: system reserved with windows and apps on it (60GB), and d: Data (440GB)
As i said, everything works fine, and if it is just a matter of labeling, i can live with that

It is one way to avoid System Reserved on the fly during install. Just relabel it in C: Properties box.

Be sure 60gb is large enough to install all programs on it. Best way to link data is to copy User folders to data partition then rightclick each to add to related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.

If you want to extend C into the data partition this can now be done with the cool new Partition Wizard Extend function that can borrow from any partition: How to extend partition easily with partition magic – Partition Wizard video help.
