    Cant Change to Full Admin

    Hello,

I recently installed Win7 RC Build 7100. My one and only account on this PC is standard user. I am having issues which are as follows, Office 2007 has been loaded and everytime I open any office app, Word, Excel, Outlook etc, the installer window comes up. In addition, Avast has detected a Trojan, and I cannot delete the Trojan because I do not have Admin permmision for Avast to access the HDD to delete it.
I have installed two printers and a scanner, however they do not show up in my devices window, but I can still print.

I can only assum that these issues have something to do with the fact that I am logged on as a standard user and not an Admin user. I have tried to change my user account to full admin, however the option is there but grayed out.

Is this because this version is the RC version? I'm about to get rid of windows7 and reinstall vista (which would suck, I really like the new features of 7)

    does anyone have any ideas?

sounds like a botched install. have you tried a repair install? Repair Install
failing that, try to reinstall windows 7 again before going back to vista.
In your user control panel, does it 'Administrator' under your user picture?
In windows 7, the default is an administrator account - but UAC is still needed to elevate a programs rights.

Why don't you try to create a new user account, with full administrator rights. If you can do that, you can then copy over your user files from the old user account and hopefully, your problems will be resolved.

If that doesn't work, then I agree that a repair or a new clean install might be necessary.

Yes, I did try to create a new user, but the Administrator was still grayed out. I can only create a standard user account!!

Your first created account, by default, is an Administrator. If this did not happen, then it is probably a bad install or bad ISO.

    Try this first:
Open up command prompt (run as admin) and type:
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Are there any corrupted files?

Try to boot in safe mode by pressing F8 at startup and log in using the "Administrator" account. Then go and create yourself a new Admin user (or change the type of your existing account to an Administrator). Reboot to normal mode again and login using your new Admin user.

You should download the RTM from TechNet then.

Rule out a development conflict which may be corrected in the release version.

When you setup seven were you given a chance to setup an admin account. If not then you have a bad copy. Can only recommend you get a new RTM from MS's download site. Not sure through, maybe it was the RC, but one of those (RTM or RC) had an end date of 21 August. Good luck. :)
