Unable to change screensaver on Windows 7 Starter. Please help.

    Hi guys,

My name is Dario and this is my first post. Great to be here!

Been spending hours trying to get my screensaver changed on my windows 7 starter edition. Have seen previous threads on this forum about it and searched the internet for hours, but still no solution.

I can access the screen saver settings dialog box, but whenever I select another screensaver from the dropdown list and click apply, the changes never take affect.
It just reverts back to the defualt screensaver setting that came with the netbook.

I've also tried to use the registery editor (regedit) to modify the value data. But whenever I input the new screensaver data, it displays the message:

'Cannot edit SCRNSAVE.EXE: Error writing the value's new contents.'

Any suggestions? Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to solve it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Dario

Hello Dario, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you may have some sort of permissions issue. Go to the key below in regedit. Next, right click on Desktop in the left pane, and click on Permissions.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Using step 3 in OPTION THREE of the tutorial below, make sure that your user account is set as the owner, and to have "Full Control" of the Desktop key.

Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

Afterwards, see if you are able to change your screen saver.

    Hope this helps, :)
