What is going on with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Installation DVD
and I/O Error 0xc00000e9
If you have a Windows 7 Install DVD that you purchased
"before" April 12, 2011 - Please read this before you trash
your current installation of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and perhaps
the other versions, in favor of doing a new clean install.
Here is why.
My original Windows 7 Pro 64 bit DVD purchased
in May of 2010 yields the following error during a
re install attempt. Files on DVD are dated July 14, 2009
Same error message when trying to upgrade to
Windows 8 Pro 64 bit from purchased DVD
However, the rabbit hole goes deeper.
When I tried to re install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
using a recently purchased DVD copy of Windows 7 Pro
64 bit , the installation to an empty drive was successful.
The files on the new DVD installation DVD are dated April 12, 2011
I then tried to upgrade that "new" clean install to windows 8 pro
but it failed at 78%
You decide what is really going on - I did.
“Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by
unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use.
Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.”
