Windows 7: What is going on with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Installation DVD

What is going on with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Installation DVD

and I/O Error 0xc00000e9

If you have a Windows 7 Install DVD that you purchased
"before" April 12, 2011 - Please read this before you trash
your current installation of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and perhaps
the other versions, in favor of doing a new clean install.

Here is why.

My original Windows 7 Pro 64 bit DVD purchased
in May of 2010 yields the following error during a
re install attempt. Files on DVD are dated July 14, 2009
Same error message when trying to upgrade to
Windows 8 Pro 64 bit from purchased DVD

However, the rabbit hole goes deeper.

When I tried to re install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
using a recently purchased DVD copy of Windows 7 Pro
64 bit , the installation to an empty drive was successful.
The files on the new DVD installation DVD are dated April 12, 2011

I then tried to upgrade that "new" clean install to windows 8 pro
but it failed at 78%

You decide what is really going on - I did.

“Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by

unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use.
Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.”

I/O Error 0xc00000e9

End of Black Screen Message. Win 7
End of Blue Screen Message Win 8

The error most often means installer is having a problem communicating with the HD.

Install and monitor your HDD with CrystalDiskInfo - Software.

Run a full Disk Check

If problems test your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

Has the hardware changed at all since the older installer was first used to install? We always advise using the latest official installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Boot code can also conflict causing about half of install blockages, remedied by wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command
