    Move scroll bar - how?

I was scrolling through a folder which contains hundreds of small files when suddenly something I touched on the keyboard caused the scrollbar to move from the bottom of the window to the right-hand side, so that I now have to scroll up and down instead of across. If only Windows had an option to prompt before making such changes, because I now have no idea how to get the scrollbar back to the bottom of the window so that I scroll from left to right again (which is what I am used to). Windows Help is, well, of no help at all.. Can anyone enlighten me please? All I can find on Google is dubious registry hacks, but as the scrollbar changed its position at the accidental touch of a key or two, I presumably can change things back without changing the registry.

All my other folders still scroll across by the way, with the scrollbar at the bottom, so this wasn't a global change - just for this folder. I also tried copying a folder which scrolls horizontally, deleting the files in it and moving the files from the 'nuisance' folder into it, but that causes the folder to change to scrolling vertically!! Infuriating..

    Many thanks.

It sounds like the taskbar might have moved to the right hand side of the monitor. This tutorial (option two) shows how to drag the taskbar back to the bottom. Once you've done that, lock the taskbar so it won't move again.

Presuming you using the built in Windows Explorer (Computer in Start Menu), what view you using and did it change?

List view is the only one that scrolls horizontally for me.

Scroll direction in Explorer depends on chosen View Mode. By default only the mode LIST shows the content and scroll bar horizontally, all other view modes vertically.

Right click inside the folder and select View > List to show horizontal scroll bar:

Quick reply - many thanks folks. Yes, the view had changed from list to small icons (looked pretty much the same so I didn't notice - no idea how it changed just with my accidentally hitting something wrong on the keyboard). Now it is back to list view, as other folders, I scroll across from the bottom of the window again.

It's possible, if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, like 99% do these days, you hit the CTRL key and knocked the wheel at the same time, one little scroll forwards.

CTRL + Mouse Wheel allows you to scroll through your different views.

Just happy it was a easy fix.
