New Power Supply for Crossfire 5850's
Hey,
Recently i picked up a bargain at the local computer parts store. It was two HIS radeon HD 5850's and xfire bridge for $100! A nice upgrade from my second hand GTX 550 Ti. They said they were clearing out old stock, it was the last thing left and my motherboard supports it. Anyway, I couldn't resist and i brought them home and realised i still had my thermaltake 500w PSU... so instead of being naive and chancing blowing up $1000 and burning my parents house down (I'm 15 BTW, in not one of those guys that are 42 and live in their mothers garage condemned to forever game and never see the light of day).
I went back to look at the store and found this on special for $79 (I'm on a tight budget, McDonald's isn't known for their high pay rates.)
Corsair GS High Current 600W PSU v2
It has a single 12v rail capable of providing 49 amps (588 Watts). Since one 5850 only uses 160W (peak), two would leave 260 W for my CPU. I will not be overclocking the cards (the voltage regulator doesn't allow software voltage control anyway), however my FX 4170 IS overclocked @ 5 Ghz (water cooled, don't worry and its 24/7 stable at 1.5V) I am willing to return to stock if its required.
Will this power my Crossfire system? If you need any other info just ask.
Cheers, Daniel.
PS. If this is in the wrong section, I'm sorry, my PC is in pieces and my old trusty Nokia will only show the first three sections XD
