Well there you go, put in a cd, see if it sees it. If it does, mark the thread solved.

Well then you could have a bad drive. Is it trying to read the cd ? Try a few different cds.

    Hi sharkd442,

Please check the 'device manager' and share the status of the 'DVD/CD-ROM drives'. If it is still listed, does it have a 'yellow mark' besides it?

If you observe a 'yellow mark' besides it, please refer to the following 'Microsoft article' to delete the 'Upper/Lower filters from the registry': The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that is running Windows Vista

Note: This step leads to changes in 'Windows Registry'; i recommend you to either create a 'system restore point' or 'backup the current registry' for future use, if needed. To 'backup the Registry in Windows 7' you may refer to the following article: Back up the registry

If the CD/DVD drive is listed in the 'Device Manager' without any 'yellow mark', please capture its details and share them with me; i will try to look for a 'firmware update'. Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.
