Win 7 Speech Recognition

I can't get the language feature of the Win 7 speech recognition program to function. I've tried switching from US English to UK English, with no luck. Any advice I can get will be appreciated.

I use soeech recognition promarily for entering numbers into spreadsheets. I decided to try the native WIN 7 Speech Recognition rather than upgrading Dragon. I can't get to accurately do numbers. Is there a command or key you can use to specifiy numbers?
