Hard Drive formatted but not empty

Hello, I've found an old hard drive, so I plugged it to the pc and formatted it, now, Windows shows that it is empty but when you open properties it shows that 190 MB are in use. why is that, is there a way to remove those 190 MB?

190MB is a very weird amount. Just a wild guess on my part but did this drive happen to come from an Xbox 360? The Xbox 360 console software needed for Kinect requires 190 megabytes of storage space. I think I remember reading/seeing something to the effect that the very early Xbox hard drives automatically set aside 190MB and it couldn't be deleted. This is complete speculation and I could be totally off the mark here. What is the make/model/size of the hard drive?

This drive did not come from an xbox 360 but from my old pc, this is an Hitachi 80 gb 3.5'' hard drive. could this amount be due to fragmantation?

Thanks, I did that, and now only 90 MB are in use instead of 190 MB.
do you think that if I do this many times it will go down? should it really show that 0 MB are in use or because it's an old hard drive some space will never be accessible?

On every drive that I have ever owned, there is always some space that is reserved for the system.

You might want to try a Bootable version of Partition Wizard to delete the partition, then make a new partition, then format it.

Full format it from Elevated Command Prompt. Type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (insert HD # from LIST - DO NOT proceed if not positive)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="STORAGE"
    EXIT
    EXIT

    Because that`s what he wants.

Did you delete everything until the drive was completely unallocated space ?

AS MENTIONED.. use the partition wizard boot cd and get rid of everything.
