Would you trust this ISP?

    This is the very reason I have also sent the data to Kaspersky - to find out if it is a false alert or not. If it is a false alert hopefully Kaspersky will be able to identify why. If it is genuine then the problem is still there.

    Antony, I feel your frustration. How ever as you were advised that OS7 was not to be used on mission critical machines and since you are still un-able or un-willing to try any other suggestions you are still un-able to retrieve your mail.
    Another way to go at this issue is "Whats changed"?
    Its not on the ISP's side, all they do is provide the pipeline, since you have issues with retrieving web based email work around the issue and configure a "POP MAIL" SMTP based mail client since you will not consider changing your AV at the moment.

    Thanks Adrian. Actually I have tried other options and I do have a work around the problem and can access my mail via those other options. However I now have a resolution from BT themelves.
    A senior manager from BT has contacted me today in regard to the issue. As you may recall I mentioned that I was asked by them to send in a feedback complaint and this is what BT have responded to. They acknowledge that their software is not yet currently compatible with Win 7. This is being worked on and as soon as is possible will be made a live product. They have also apologised for the bad and unhelpful advise. Stating that no rep should have asked me to uninstall my OS. They also have acknowledged that the helpdesk should have had the information to hand to advise people as they prepare to go over to win 7. This information is now going to be made available to their help desk support.

    Let me repeat this just one more time. I do not get as far as accessing my emails. I am clicking the link that takes me to the mail server. How am I supposed to delete an offending email if I havent even got that far into the mail server? To detect a virus in an email I must first be granted access to the mail server. I am getting the virus warning BEFORE then and being DENIED access to the mail server.
    What I'm saying is ESET AV will scan the emails as they are being downloaded to you system.. Your current AV simply will not allow this to come thru. once it says bad its bad.. so you have to DELETE you current AV. and let another try. Now if the offending EMAIL is in your system. It can be cleaned by another AV that will scan everything. False postive or Real. what difference does it make.
    They acknowledge that their software is not yet currently compatible with Win 7.
    Then it is up to you to get one THAT IS.
    Windefender will scan your entire system. IF THE EMAIL IS ON YOUR SYSTEM IT SHOULD FIND - DELETE. PROBLEM FIXED.
    NOD 32 AV, will scan in REAL TIME Protection. and if the EMail is infected. it should clean. Problem FIXED.

    IF YOUR 100% STUCK ON USING KASPERSKY WHICH IS EITHER SHOWING YOU A FALSE POSITIVEor simply NOT WORKING. YOU SCREWED until you remove Kaspersky and allow another AV to do the job.
    What a shame your IP is so outdated that the AV does not work with Win7. actually Win7 is based on Vista. guess your SCREWED any way you go...
    PS: almost every EMail program I know has a method to DELETE all from your system, and then you can reset so as to only receive the HEADERS.
    which does not open the EMAIL until you double click. That also should solve your problem.

    Antony Guess what i been having problems with my internet (lol Bt as usual) so i really can understand your frustration. I can agree with cpc464 and adrian with your antivirus giving off a false possitive. There are lots of free antiviruses to try just to test weather or not it is kaspersky or not. Avast home, Bit Defender, AVG and avira just to name a few. It is worth a try if however you still find you are having problems after this then try a online scan. I know i mentioned this before but it might be worth trying outlook lol what i cant understand is my partner and i both using bt isp both using windows 7 like yourself and we can get our mail from bt (NOT RUBBING YOUR NOSE IN IT) lol.:) we both use eset so have to agree with snuffy it is a blumming good av firewall and antispyware so its an all in one package lol

    Can I just apologise - particularly to Snuffy. It wasn't my intention to rile you or have ago at you. I know that what you have said is common sense. Just to support you and yes rub my nose in it - Kaspersky have now confirmed that it a FAKE. to quote from them "Sorry, it was a false detection. It will be fixed in the next update. Thank you for your help."
    Believe it or not I did take your suggestions seriously regarding the virus which is why I sent the data to Kaspersky in the first place.
    For me however the virus became a secondary issue - and its obvious that I didnt make that clear. My main concern went from the virus to the attitude that the staff at BT were taking. I guess I got worked up after being told I had to uninstall Windows 7 and reinstall either XP or Vista. I have no mission critical data on this pc - I store that sort of stuff on a separate drive.
    It was the thought that
    a) I would lose all the stuff I use regularly -- the programs
    b) I would have to reinstall them all (knowing I shall be doing that in a few days time anyway seems pointless) - and
    c) I really did - and still do - think that the advise given me by BT was unaceptable.

    I guess I feel a little vindicated as - like I have already mentioned - that a senior member of management took my complaint seriously enough to ring me and apologise and also clear up several issues I had raised.
    Again I apologise for seeming to be ignoring what folk have said - I didnt but I should really have made it more clear what my real issue was. That my real issue was not the virus (I can and did deal with it - and yes using the suggestions made by Snuffy) but the attitude and lack of knowledge when trying to talk to BT about Windows 7 and their not being ready for it. Hopefully now the management will see to it that the helpdesk support can now correctly advise people that the software is not yet ready but will be as soon as is possible.
    Oh and as a nice surprise from BT They are sending me a nice new router - not sure if that is meant to be an apology or an incentive to stay with them :)

    Glad to hear you have things sorted out Antony, I'm with BT but don't use their offerings with regards anti-virus and such because I already have my own, NOD32.

    I know when I first went to the BT/Yahoo home page they had it listed as needing to update and all the other rubbish but didn't bite. I have the email window showing but never actually read any from there as I prefer to use Mailwasher and then bring in the mail I want to Windows Live Mail.

    I'd like to thank you though for posting your experience on here as it gives others like me who are with BT the knowledge to know what to expect when going over to Windows 7.

    I'd like to thank you though for posting your experience on here as it gives others like me who are with BT the knowledge to know what to expect when going over to Windows 7.
    I have to say about the above comment I dont think its a Windows 7 issue rather a BT issue, I have been using Windows 7 for 2 months now and not had any problems. I am with BT but like Joan Archer I dont use any of thier gadgets I would suggest using a well known Antivirus and Firewall Nod32 is good I use ESet Smart Security myself.

    Swithching to WIndows 7 was the easiest thing I have ever done, it's better than XP and Vista and I find the compatibility is superb
