    Hidden folders showing up

So I've just noticed that some folders that, if I remember, used to be hidden, are now visible (see attachment). What could be the reason? Should I just mark them as hidden again?

Some background info: I did have some interesting things today (or just noticed today) on this PC like Windows Defender and Security Center services being disabled and removed from the Services.msc tool, Action Center notification icon was also disabled but it looks like I fixed all those. Did scans with MBAM, Spybot, Avira, ComboFix, gmer, TDSSkiller, etc. and there doesn't seem to be any kind of malware so I don't even know what was the reason for these problems. I've noticed the folders are visible after this tweaking.

    Hello iMaStEr,

If they are just displaying as faded folders, then yeah you should be fine with only using step 3 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to not have hidden files show anymore.

Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide

    Hope this helps, :)

Nope, they're not "faded", that's the reason why I'm asking why is it so.

Also, another thing I've noticed that some processes are without a user in Task Manager, I don't think it should be like that?

Sounds like you used something that unhid all hidden files.

You could do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to undo it.

Eh, I'm thinking doing either a repair or a even a complete reinstall (since it's about 2 years after the last time).
I'm just wondering whether the repair would really fix all those registry/service settings and other stuff that might be causing the problem? Or is it more adequate to just spare more time for a clean install?

Yep...doing a clean factory reinstall will format and rewrite and install giving you a brand new system.

I'm not sure a repair install will fix that, but it could be worth a try if you have the time to also do a clean install if it doesn't.

Personally, I would do a clean install to start fresh for better results.

taskmanager showing no username is quite normal. All folders you selected should be hidden. boot, recovery,$recycle.bin should be system as well

there is a code that can make this kind of results that is attrib
you can read more information here:
    MS-DOS attrib command help

about the process with no user name, i think they are viruses and you should check your startup programs with msconfig and remove unwanted programs from start up

in order to clean up your system, there is 2 choice for you, as you are currently infected:
1: reinstall a new fresh windows (with formatting all of your HDD partitions, which is highly suggested)

2: clean the virus with rescue disks, which you can get it by download it from most of the antivirus companies, then boot your system with this rescue disk and check your HDD with the antivirus out of windows environment

Run task manager and sort by username. I have a few processes without username. Don't you have them? I see it on all my machines. Winlogon is one of them
