    windows 7 creating temp user profile

    So here is my deal

    I have a user here on my domain, lets call it SNOW (since its snowing out). Back in November i had given userX a windows 7 on a HP505b box. When she originally logged in, it said that 7 had to create a temp profile for her. after alot of monkeying with it, i just created a folder "userX" and then windows 7 was able to apply settings and give her a local profile.
    Now, I am wanting to give userX a new computer, same HP505b with windows 7, but, when i log in to create her local user profile on it, it says that her profile is a temporary profile. i logged off, rebooted, and logged in again, with the same note. i logged in as a network admin, the pc created a local user account for me on it and i can see the folder in the users folder. I then asked another lady, userY, to come in and log in, and with userY the comp created local user folder and all that jazz. So i went ahead and logged back in with userX, and again, TEMP folder appears and looking at user profiles through system properties it shows "snow/userX" and the status is "temporary".

    Now here is the change up, when i log into a windows xp pro box, it creates her local user account no problem, no temp folder created or anything.

    ive googled this problem and come across alot of forums and tips about how to modify the registry and the like, but all of the people complain about this temp file/folder issue AFTER they have had an account on the computer for a while.

    any help into this would be awesome and legendary!!!

    No idea whether this will work, somebody sent me the "fix" for some problems with temporary user profiles, I haven't tried it, but it's doubtless worth having a look at if you are having such problems;

    User Profile Error - Logged on with a Temporary Profile - Vista Forums

    1. Login using another local administrator account. (Make one if there isnt another).
    2. Remove the corrupted user from Users in control panel.
    3. Move the corresponding folder from the Documents and Settings (XP) or Users folder (Vista and Windows7) to the desktop of the newly created admin user’s desktop.
    4. Open regedit and navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList Find the key on the left that corresponds to the corrupted profile. Note the value of the string on the right called GUID. Delete all keys that list the corrupt user profile (.bak versions and regular).
    5. THIS IS THE STEP THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO KB:
    Go up a few lines in regedit to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileGuid.
    6. Delete the key (keys?) within this ProfileGuid folder that match the value of the GUID string that you noted above.
    7. Restart PC
    8. Login as the temporarily created admin profile. Go to control panel and recreate the corrupted profile. (Make it an administrator at least temporarily so you’ll be able to access the files we moved to the other admin’s desktop if needed).
    9. Logout and login as fixed user.
    10. Copy any files from the temp admin’s desktop where we copied the corrupted profiles data, into the appropriate places in the fixed profile. This includes My Documents,Favorites, Outlook data, and any other user data you need.
    11. Once everything is working properly, you can remove the temp admin from control panel> Users and delete its folder.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL OF THE DATA YOU NEED BEFORE REMOVING THE TEMP ADMIN.

    it sounds good in theory, only problem is that there is no folder to delete. Like i had said earlier, this TEMP folder issue starts as soon as i log in with her name onto the windows 7 box for THE FIRST TIME/ FIRST INITIAL LOG IN (not being an ass, just putting emphasis for others to see). There is no folder for me to delete, because as soon as i log off, the temp folder goes away...

    Sorry it's no use. I just thought it might be of some help.

    This profile tool is also useful for small deployments;

    Again, no idea if it will help solve your problem.

    its cool man. i found a work around. closer examination i found that these pcs were actually the compaq 505b, not the HP505b. same company, but the compaqs were bought early 2010, while the hps were purchased late 2010. i dont know what the difference is, but i logged onto the HP box and it works

    In a PC with many users, the listing with the appended .bak is probably the bad user. I often delete users who only occasionally use a machine and recently this article helped me. When I deleted his profile, the .bak remained and he could not log in properly. The .bak should be where you begin when looking for a corrupt registry entry to remove.
