Need help with permissions for two AVG services

Hi all. I just installed AVG on one of my W7 machines. I am the admin and this is the only acct.

After install, I went to set two services in the services applet to disabled as I do not want them starting with windows. I got an "Access Is Denied" error. I followed the path to the exe, figuring that I could edit the permissions, but no matter what I did, I kept getting an access denied error. Is there something else I need to be doing?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, it did not work. I see "Take Ownership" available on other files and folders, but it's not there on the .exe files in this folder. It is however, available on the parent folder. If I r-click on the folder and select "Take Ownership", I get a DOS wondow that pops up, that lists all of the files in that folder that "Take Ownership" does not exist, and it says "access denied".

    What next? Thanks.

Where are you getting an "access denied"? If it's when trying to control the services themselves, file system permissions have then nothing to do with that. It should be enough with executing the control panel applet as an admin (which should happen by default anyway).
What are those two services you're trying to modify?

Uninstall AVG and try Microsoft Security Essentials to see if it makes a difference.

You'll get back no performance at all by disabling any Win7 Services. What can make a difference is establishing a Clean Boot and other optimizations from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

    Hi guys, and thanks.

Let me first address two things:

    Was in the services applet.

Not trying to disable any Win7 Services.

So, I killed two of the services in the T.M., and as a result, was able to set those two services in the services applet to disabled. Evidently, those services cant set to be disabled while running, which I never have encountered before.

So now I still have to AVG services running, as seen in the T.M. Thing is, ALL of the AVG services in the services applet are disabled, nothing is enabled in msconfig, and nothing is present in the reg (CurrentVersion > Run). I also checked AVG's prefs, and don't see anything. If all of this is the case, any ideas on how these services are starting with Windows?

    Thanks in advance.
