    "FunDisc.dll.mui missing in en-US folder"




    I am having Windows Update issues on three of the latest Patch Tuesday updates and have narrowed it down to this issue. Listed below is copy and paste of the CheckSUR log

    Hello Tru and welcome to Seven Forums.

    From what I could find out, Function Discovery dll is a hidden system file and is usually located in the %SYSTEM% folder or subfolder in %WINDOWS%.

    Since it's a system file I'd try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) It will probably show integrity violations so run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

    I was able to fix the issue. I was able to figure out the correct file folder the dll file needed to be in, took ownership of that folder, and copied the necessary file from another laptop I am working on with the same OS as I'm running (was a fresh install). I ran sfc again and everything checked out. Thank you for such a quick response!

    Now, onto my original issue that led to the above discovery.

    The updates are:

    KB2736422 MS13-007: Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1: January 8, 2013 (can't install error 8E503FA)
    KB2756921 MS13-004: Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1: January 8, 2013 (can't install error 8E503FB)
    KB2773072 Update changes the game rating systems in Windows 7 (can't install error 8E503FA)

    The first two involve a security update with .NET Framework 3.5.1.

    I have uninstalled, and reinstalled .NET, then updating hoping it would correct itself and it did not.
    I have tried installing in a clean boot state. Did not work.
    Didn't bother to download them individually to install, because if they could install they would thru Windows Update.

    I have tried scouring the web to find information on a fix but it seems the error codes themselves are not common. (least in my opinion)


    The system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.
    .NET is current.
    Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials is what I'm using for protection.

    The last update is "Update changes the game rating systems in Windows 7." Apparently it changes the compliance on the ESRB game ratings.

    Could someone throw me in the direction to correct this?

    Glad to hear you were able to fix the FunDisc.dll issue. Nicely done.

    I'm not a Windows Update expert. (Come to think of it, I'm not an expert at anything.) But you might give Option Two a try in this tutorial.

    If this doesn't help you may want to re-post your problem in the Windows Updates & Activation section where it will be seen by the Updates experts. Just from personal experience, when I've had Windows Updates set to "automatic" I experienced periodic fail to install issues. But when I'd do the same updates manually just one at a time, they seem to install without a problem. Just a thought.
