Windows 7: Power failure during a attempted system restore.

Power failure during a attempted system restore.

Hello, I recently did a system restore late at night just so this problem would not happen (around 2am) with no weather and with my luck the power clips on and off.

I use windows 7 home edition.

When I start my computer it does not go to the login screen but shows a big bar at the bottom saying "windows loading files".

I have tried several methods on the repair screen such as:

1) Trying all of the system restores which show it failed

2) Going to the command prompt and typing

list volume (to get drive letter)
select volume D: (my drive letter)
detail volume (making sure readonly is off)

Then I typed chkdsk D: /f it went through steps 1-2 fine but at 3 it explains that it "failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50"

System repair fails even with the disk in the computer, and I have no clue what to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated. My computer has all of my college essays on it and without it.. I'm in deep trouble week 2 already into college.

Edit: I'm willing to follow anything and take screenshots if needed.

Go into your command prompt and type sfc /scannow

This will check system files, and replace any that are missing or corrupt.

Thank you for your reply, I was fiddling with the command prompt and just now checked back.

I typed chkdsk /r D : (minus the space) and it's taking a very long time, the first time I did it it "errored out". If this fixes it I'm saved.. but if not I'll give your suggestion a shot then go on with Repair Windows 7/Vista Startup Issues With BootRec.exe [Tutorial] - YouTube .

I tried sfc /scannow and it explains that there is a repair process going on and to reboot (which there is not).

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start starting with System Restore from boot disk, then up to 3 separate Startup Repairs with reboots.
