    Looking to Upgrade 4 Year old Desktop


    Hello Every one, i am not sure if i can post my question here,



    I won the lottery, No i did not lol. but i did come across a few extra dollars and now i am thinking of doing a updrade on my Desktop from
    Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H to Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 SKT-AM3+ Motherboard (Rev 1.0): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
    Windows 7 Pro X64
    Corsair 4096 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM) to
    Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
    Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB) to EVGA Nvidia GTX550Ti 1GB 192-Bit 3D Ready Graphics Card: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
    Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 1T

    Corsair 750 W power supply
    i would some input on what the groups thinks of this Video and Motherboard Upgrade. and some possible suggestions for an upgrade to a CPU. currently running a Phenom 2 X4 965 looking to go to a FX series CPU

    Well Pantz personally I like Intel and I think that AMD are really in a rut as far as CPU's go so I reckon you cannot go past a an i5 on a 1155 board take a look at my specs and see. The Asus took some getting used to but turned out real nice.

    As for the GPU I am no expert at all and I guess I shall have to leave that for someone else.

    Really does depend on your budget and what you are going to use the machine for.

    As above, what are your main uses for the machine, this really determines the best setup in terms of processor cores etc
    I agree about intel also (yes we are fanboys) i just upgraded three systems and all are LGA1155 running i3 (office) and i5 (home) with 4 & 8 GB of ram respectively and i am suitably impressed with SSDs they are snappy for a relatively low budget

    Oops should have mentioned the SSD and if you do go that way it needs setting up with the tutorial to align it but like Pauly says it will be a real plus.
