    Windows will not boot up

Windows was taking a very long time booting up, so tried to restart, then got command prompt with message: Reboot and Select proper Boot device, or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key_ I tried several things but still no OS. Laptop is Samsung RC512, about 6-1/2 years old. Never had this problem before. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum The error means either the boot sector is faulty or the disk has died. Does the BIOS see the drive have you got any other boot disk to see if the drive is there. If the bios doesntsee it its dead or come loose

If you have access to another computer take a look at this. This will help you recover lost partitions or make a non booting one drive bootable again. There is a dos version so you can try and recover your drive that way and make it bootable. Or it will let you recover your files to another disk so you don't lose anything.

This will only work if the drive is still in a workable state, if it's dead then it needs to be replaced.

I found this cause when i was reinstalling windows and in the installation where you make partitions i only had my ssd selected but windows also deleted the partition on my hard drive that had the backup on it and this program rebuilt the partition table and all my files came back. So i highly suggest you give it a try no harm in doing so.
