it is now trying to boot up in safe mode (but a bit slow) it has loaded the file list and gone to a blank screen with the cursor again, the hdd is still flashing and has not crashedso i,m gonna leave it for a bit to see if it will load up and try what you mentioned. i,ll give it 1/2 an hour because of how slow it is. will keep you informed.
Very strange how its running this slow. It should be a matter of 2 minutes at the most to boot into safe mode normally.
I'm wondering weather this could be a faulty hdd.
hope not i really need to get this started up because it belonged to my brother who died not long ago and i,m trying to close all his accounts and there are still things open on the web through it and he never gave me any passwords.
i have rebooted again and on the menu it has,
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
enable boot logging-------------------------not sure what this is
enable low-resolution video (640x480)
last known good configuration (advance)
directory services restore mode-------------not sure what this is
debugging mode----------------------------not sure what this is
disable automatic restart on system failure---not sure what this is
disable drivers signature enforcement--------not sure what this is
start windows nornally
See if you can get inot safe mode with command prompt and from the command prompt run the sfc /scannow
ok started safe mode with command prompt
this is the last line before it goes blank
loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys
it sits on this line for about a minute.
and the hdd is still flashing as thou it,s doing somthing
and the cursor still moves so it has not crashed.
