I don't think its any of them.

We only want to run a diagnostic check on the drive. Not recover or move anything.

    Wait for Gregs input.

i booted from dvd drive and pressed enter then it gave me 3 options
    boot disk
    safe mode (which 1)
    local
then it gave me the resolutions options
    i picked default 1024x768
then it comes up with a blue screen with a pic of hdd with a top hat
    then a menu screen.

    what next?

I gave you two blue links that open videos showing how to Check the File System of each partition and run the HD Surface scan.

I just pointed them out a second time in my last post.

Partition Wizard Create Partition Video Help
    Partition Wizard Partition surface test

I will tell you that without absolute attention to detail it will be much harder to repair your OS. This means you can't miss any step (four times) and need to report back on the results for each or ask back questions for how to do them if you aren't sure or haven;t had a video presented showing you (twice).

been doing a surface scan for 16 hours and it has only done 2 lines and out of 240 blocks it has 88 red ones and still has 699.40.19 hours left to do.

so i think its safe to say that the HDD is knackered
