Any ideas how my login background screen changed on it's own?

    Hello-

Just a weird thing happened yesterday. My Windows 7 background was always set to default when logging in (assume most have that background for W7) and last night it changed to a background here located here in my PC:

    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds

That I didn't create. I did have a nasty virus Monday (can't even believe I got nailed with one) anyway I got it cleaned and ran my scans and installed ccleaner and did that sweep of everything. Do you think ccleaner might have changed something? I mean the background is fine (below) and probably came with my HP Pavilion but just curious why it changed?

    thx

PS my sounds defaulted back to default too - meaning I didn't have that start navigation enabled I turned it off (clicks every time your in a window and select something) and I had a login .wav file I used and that defaulted also. All seems well just stumped on those.

would not worry about it to much unless something else happens. It might just be something you downloaded. So just remember what you downloaded in the past few days. That might be it.

Just a thought. The virus you had changed things not Ccleaner.
I would do this if it was my computer and I new the computer was clean.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

As you suspected, the screenshot in your post shows a standard, native background image included in almost every pre-installed Windows 7 on HP computers.

On some HP models the bloatware pack includes three apps from Stardock: Fences Pro, Logon Studio and MyColors. If you have this software pack installed, you can run MyColors and select Restore default Windows theme which should also set logon screen to default. If not, you can easily do it with Logon Studio.

Hi did that it came back fine all is still the same. Its fine I haven't seen anything else. msconfig is clean, task scheduler doesn't have any odd tasks.. the virus seems gone. When I had the virus the background was the default - just last night changed on a reboot.

Emsisoft comes back clean, spybot clean AVG clean all in safemode.

Hi I removed all that stuff when I bought. I beefed up the PC with a pwr. supply and serious video card and memory. I just didn't feel like building one. Killer rig just sucks when something happens that you don't control. I've seen other posts here in the forum on how to change it back and add new ones.

Also It actually did disable my security center and deleted the service right out of 'services' -- I added it back through a reg key I found on the web. All good but anyway i'll live with the change and will keep the background or maybe i'll switch it back and see if it changes again..

HP has the worst load of preinstalled crapware in the industry, which throttles Win7's native performance. That's why most tech enthusiasts prefer to get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.
