What went wrong?
OK I had an issue with my pc not allowing me to use 2x2Gig ram chips together. This was solved with a bios update but it did cause me the following problem. First off after doing the bios update I checked the system with just the original 2gig of ram - it seemed ok but a little slow. I then added the second 2gig and got the following happen:
When Win 7 restarted it looked ok to begin with. I logged in thinking it was a little slow. From the login screen to actually seeing the interface it got very very slow loading up in something like 10 minutes. When it finally loaded I imeadiately noticed I had no network or internet access despite both being fully operative. Then I got a message telling me I had no system management available unless I logged in as administrator - not as a user with admin rights.
I decided to boot into safe mode and do a restore from there. Safe mode seemed to load ok no problems till I came to access the help and support system. I then got a warnng that the help and support system was not available due to a problem with the system management.
This left me with 2 options stick in the cd and do a repair from there or if that failed - a format and reinstall. Fortunately the reapir from the cd worked first time without problem and the pc (this one Im using now) is now fully working again and the speed improvement is noticeable.
What I was wondering was if anyone can suggest as to why this series of events happened at all? The bios update was a success with no hitches and all else appeared ok. I cant see any logical reason for it. Thoughts?
