Windows 7: Windows 7 crashes on startup. Can't restore, repair or repair install

19 Jan 2013   #21

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I think this might be a bigger problem than I initially thought. I can't get the old computer to even boot the damn repair CD (it either freezes while loading it or it comes up with a screen saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:"
And then goes on to say I should use the repair disk, which I can't. To make matters worse, it doesn't respond to me tapping F8 on the keyboard at startup, though it does respond to me pressing other keys (F9 for Express recovery, which I need a Gigabyte Mobo CD for apparently, and I don't have it).

Now I'm even more stumped. I think the motherboard must be dying and maybe that triggered this issue with the hard drive?

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

These work up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run Factory Recovery or Clean Reinstall.

If you cannot get a disk to boot you may need to use a self-booting disk like Hirens (provided) to wipe the HD which will force the installer to boot itself.

Try running a Anti Virus from a bootable CD.

Bootable A/V's are provided in the first steps of the tutorial I linked just above. You'll need to start there since if infected Win7 might not repair.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Not sure if I still can/should post here as the issue of the op was my initial prob. [btw, Thank You to all mod'rs here. you guys 'er awesome.] I did finally get in using the 'Last Known Good Configuration' (didn't think it'd be that easy). However, running the sfc scannow said it had 'found errors' but could not fix/solve them so I'm afraid whatever is/was causing the/an issue may still exist. I attatched the cbs.log if needed.. Thanks, again.

Windows 7 Home Edition x64

Im having the exact same problems with my Acer Aspire X3400.
its constantly blue screening with different error messages.
crashing constantly.
when i turn it off and back on. the LED just flashes constantly and i have to leave it for a few hours until i can attempt to fix it.
ive tried system restoring it, and it crashes/bluescreens before its finished, ive done the command prompt CHKDSK/F and it found errors and corrected them, but it still does it. ive took a stick of RAM out, and tried it without it, and it gets so far before displaying the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
im so confused even though im knowledgeable with computers.
ive been trying to fix this since before xmas, spending days at a time on it and im getting nowhere.
