    Multiboot and internet issue

    Hi all,
I loaded win7 build 7000 the other night onto my system drive (2x 36gig raptor,raid0 on rocket raid3510 pcie) I have the drive partitioned as follows:
    20g XP32 20g XP64 28g win7
Install went flawlessly! Installed all drivers booted up quick and patched itself really fast, incl some driver updates for my hrdwre (audio, video, and raid controllers) which I thought was a really cool feature.
I had been reading your site for a while before so I also went and got the beta nvidia video drivers as well as the mp3 patches.

I was taking a food break when I heard the machine power down, and when I powered it back I realized that it had gone into hibernate. That scared me a bit as I had read some thing about issues with this on google, but on wake up, there was everything I had been working on intact.
    Except... no internet.
(Small wired home network via lynksys wrt54g)
I could not get it back up so I restarted and logged into my XP64 installation (same machine) No internet!
I tried a lot of stuff, resets of modem and router, wipe network and re install, diagnose problem via 7 and XP, switched all cabling around, nothing.
I booted another machine on the network, voila! internet.
I booted back into xp64 on the first machine and reformatted the win7 partition and re installed. Failed installation with unknown error!
Reboot, try again, BSOD with error driver_not less or equal....

Ok, Flashed to new bios (1801) reset cmos, reformatt, reinstall 7, no prob.
Boot into 7 patch it up, internet!!! Yay!
Boot back into xp64, no internet. reset up network, no joy.
restart to boot back into 7 and NTDLR missing Hahaha I forgot to reset drive order from clr rtc and am not sure where bootloader actually went.

By now Im sure you have gathered that I dont have a clue what Im doing
Im back on the other machine at this point.

I dont want to have to re install my xp x32 and x64 if I dont have to but Im unsure what else to try to get theyre networks back up.
My searches turn up lots of hibernate issues and some connectivity issues but not really anything the same as what Ive been having.

Any insight would be much apreciated

    Dennis

    Hi DTree,

I'm not big on XP, but try the steps here

NTLDR Missing - NTLDR is Missing Error Message - Couldn't Find NTLDR - Fix NTLDR

    and to disable Hibernation

    Hibernate - Enable or Disable

    This may be useful

How to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 (XP installed first)

    Hope it helps

    Thanks for info SIW2,

I turned off hibernation immediately upon resume
Fixing mbr for XP is not a biggie either

Figuring out what borked my network has been another matter

A clean install of 7 fixed the netwok on 7

But why would the networks on the other 2 os's on my machine have been changed in any way by 7 going to hibernation?

hmmm... bad driver install somewheres.... could it possibly be that you installed some of your own drivers, meaning, besides the drivers win7 or the updates provided? If so, my next question would be that, did you make sure that the install dir was your win7, ie D:\? I noticed alot of programs want to install in default C:\, not all but some, those are the ones you need to catch of course, always by doing a custom install instead of typical/compact/express.
With both XP and Win7 screwed up... this is my only guess thus far.

Really no need to grab the beta nvida display drivers as i believe those are the ones included with win7 7000. Although if you have an nforce board, you may want to install the latest drivers from website. Fixed a few issues i had with network.

    Thanks for the reply Digger,

No, I didnt install any other drivers untill after the trouble started other than the Nvidia display driver 181.22
I am always very careful about where things get installed also, I keep my system drives absolutely clean
    Progress thus far is:
I have restored internet connectivity to my XP64 Although Only one of my 2 network adapters is showing up (enabled in bios and drivers reloaded for it, adapter #1 does not appear in device manager)
I am now able to boot into my XP32 after having flashed the bios back to 1603 from 1801 (was complaining about ACPI compatibility) I have full connectivity on this OS both net adapters showing up, bridged and working as intended.
I was trying to use easyBCD to fix the "No boot option for win7" but the prog failed to initialize. I hunted this down, it wanted .net framework installed, wich I have done and now easy bcd works properly.
So far I have used it once and I am now able to boot into Win7 by using F8 key at boot, choosing my DVD drive, and then if I do nothing when it says to "push any key to boot from cd drive" win7 boots
    Im close!!
