Install with Ultimate and activate with Home Premium key ??

Can one install with a CD of an Ultimate edition and activate with a Home Premium key. Does that work. I have never done that, but that question came up.

You can if you remove the ei.cfg file from the disc and reburn it or put it onto a USB stick. Home Premium exist upon the disk, just inaccessible with that ei.cfg file.

Thanks. I vaguely remembered that but did not remember the name of the file.

You cannot install Ultimate and activate it with a Home Premium key.

As suggested you must first extract the ISO using ImgBurn to unlock all versions with eicfg removal tool, burn to new DVD with Imgburn at 4x speed.

Then install the licensed version activating it with the Home Premium Product Key.

Greg I just bought a remanufactured laptop it came with a W7 home 32bit disc, the correct version that I thought I bought but the installer loaded a 64bit version and I activated it with the 32bit key and it's working. Can this tool make it a 64bit disc.

Under the EULA you can install either 32- or 64-bit with each license, change to either as often as you want. This is not the subject of this thread.

If 64 bit got installed that means your install media was 64 bit to begin with. The eicfg tool can't change a 32 bit DVD into a 64 bit DVD, all it does is unlock all the versions on the disk so you can pick the one you want. As mentioned your product code is good for 32 bit or 64 bit, you just have to match the version listed on the COA sticker.
