Is there a way for me to save the files I want to keep and format everything else?
I notice that the updates I get for windows 7 sometimes could make me lag, I have a bunch of security for Microsoft updates and don't really see anything new about them.

You would need a separate type of storage, such as a second internal hard drive, an external hard drive, or even USB flash drives.
The format process is a process that replaces the Master File Table with a new one in the format that was specified, and it's blank. The data on the drive remains untouched; it's the fact that the drive has a blank Master File Table that makes the operating system think it's empty.
So, don't think of formatting as erasing or deleting; think of it as literally specifying the format of the drive. When you do that, it gets a new blank Master File Table in that specified format and it applies to the whole drive (or the entire partition, if you have separate partitions).
This is the extent of my knowledge. There's something in the back of my mind telling me that you may be able to create a separate partition so that you have a safe place for that data while you format the original partition. However, I don't really know how to do that.

If you have no means of storing your data externally we can help you make another partition on your current drive to store your data. Find out approximately how much you have and post back what you want to do.

No, Windows Updates will not slow your PC. The possibility of getting a bad Windows Update is greater than one in a million.
Thsi is not XP but the first automated OS for drivers and performance/security, so it's much more important to set drivers to install Automatically, provide Recommended same as Important.
In addition check for Updates now and install all Important and Optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).
Some windows updates screw up your computer.
I have one optional update I uninstalled but can't find again and it freezes random, tried everything but nothing works, NOT EVEN SYSTEM RESTORE.
And I get other random stuff that happens to my computer, when watching something on youtube, something is making it skip frame rate, when playing a game, randomly lag, this is caused by the updates, windows 7 updates.
It's unlikely that an update screwed things up, but not inpossible. I agree with Greg. Maybe you need to run "sfc /scannow"

I tried everything and i'm about to break this computer in half.
I tried SFC, SYSTEM RESTORE, REVO, anything that I tried does NOT work.
After having freezes after a optional update which was some "Intell (R)" update, system restore din't finish successfully because a file din't allow it, the restore point is already gone.
I already explained about the freezing in another thread and none of the information in it din't help me at all.
