Windows 7: Accessing XP files via enclosure...Acer netbook

15 Feb 2013   #11

Windows 7 32 bit Home premium

Here is a screen shot of "computer" showing the external IDE drives now as D and E ...this is because {nothing ever being easy} my netbook seems to have lost the screenshot/snip feature so I am now using another netbook.

C is my internal harddrive.

D and E are the 3.5" IDE

The D is accessible...E is not accessible...when trying to use the checkdisk feature in "properties", a message then says windows does not recognise the file [E]...I have tried this on several computers with the same result.

I do not have time at the moment to go through the other steps but will later on.

Just to add for the time of the saving of the music files,I do not know how they were saved into this drive as it was somebody else doing it...but they all were accessible.

Windows 7 32 bit Home premium

Hi chaps....note the perky difference ? I have managed to access the files in the entering into "properties" and looking there thoroughly(),came upon the security took a little messing around as I have never seen this before but eventually the magic words were inserted and it became accessible...I`m no techie and this may seem an obvious thing to do but not to myself I am afraid to say...however,I shall not forget...and am relieved to say the least as the files are important for some arrangement work I have.

Thanks for all the assistance that led me there guys !

The same thing would have been achieved with the Take Ownership shortcut I gave you 18 hours ago.

Glad you've got your files now. Safest would be to back them up to external HD, or if you want a free cloud solution try Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

Sorry if this has been brought up before. My netbook has been BSOD-ing for the past two weeks. It will only let me boot up in safe mode without networking. I believe it's a driver error, but I can't go online to check. Has anyone had similar issues? Cheers, Finn My system details are below:...
