After changing my os from linux to win7 , there are a few media files on my external hd that give the error location not found. It's not a big deal about the files as i can replace them, but i would like to be able remove them from the hd as now they are just empty folders, how would i remove them if every time i click on them i just get that error?
Does Windows recognize the disk, just not the files? Low-Level format the disk under Windows 7.
This free, for personal use, utility does a good job with external disks. I've used it a few times on USB connected drives. The free version is limited to 50MB/s (180GB/hr) but it's not all that bad unless you're trying to do it on a coffee break.

Well out of around 600 files, windows does the "location not found" on maybe a dozen, so I don't want to format the disk as everything else is working. I was just hoping there was some way to get around the error message and force remove the file from the hard drive.
Since Windows and Linux have different reserved characters, it's possible that the files have reserved characters in the names (e.g. ")
Do you have a Linux Live CD/DVD (or USB stick)?
If so, use that to delete the files you don't want. :)

It's easy to get "tripped up" by the reserved character sets when you are swapping between operating systems.
