Windows Explorer Stops Working When I Right Click Inside Recycle Bin

I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Whenever I go into the Recycle Bin to permanently delete files, when I right click, it freezes up and gives me the message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" then it proceeds to "Windows Explorer Is Restarting" Now I can delete files just fine when I'm on the desktop and simply right click, and choose Empty Recycle bin off of the Recycle Bin icon.

I have re-installed Windows, and I still have the problem. Any ideas how to fix it?

Because you have re-installed Windows 7 and have the same problem I would suspect that the DVD you use to install Windows 7 with has a flaw.
Where did you get your Windows 7 from? Is it OEM or a full Retail version?

Hello SoonerSalesman and welcome to Seven Forums.
I have re-installed Windows, and I still have the problem. Any ideas how to fix it?
Couple of questions if I may just to better understand your situation.

    - Was the reinstall a clean install (only Windows 7) or was it a factory reinstall including all factory installed trial software, etc?
    - How long after reinstalling Windows 7 before the right-click problem began?
    - Was this before or after you installed all Windows Updates (including SP1)?
    - Was this before or after you installed any other programs like Microsoft Office, Roxio, TurboTax, etc?
    - Do you have any 3rd party "optimizing" programs installed such as Advanced System Optimizer (ASO), Tuneup Utilities 2013, etc?

I did not re-install it from an actual disk. I have a Sony Vaio laptop, so I went into VAIO Care and did a Recovery.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "clean" install, but I have a Sony VAIO laptop, so I went into VAIO Care and did a "Recovery" to re-install Windows.

I've never had this problem before. It started just a couple days ago.

The problem started a couple days ago, so BEFORE I did the re-install.

I'm not sure if I have any optimizing programs. Probably not.

What AV program are you running?

I suspect that Avast is causing my Explorer to crash occasionally.

The only change I made, when I reinstalled my W7 OS in September, was to replace AVG with Avast.
When my Explorer crashes, I've noticed that the Avast sys tray icon is stuck part way through its animation.

I guess there are stuff inside the bin?

To empty it, you need not to right click, but click this button ....

If an empty recycle bin also crash at a right click, it is to think differently. So let us know the result.

SoonerSalesman this will help you understand what is meant by a Clean Install. Your post #5/ I'm not sure what you mean by a "clean" install
