Computer freezes randomly for 2-5 sec. Tryed everything.

I have an asus g73 jh. And i have spend the last 2 weeks on trying to fix this problem. Meanwhile i have stumbled upon a lot of people complaining about this model. Well asus in general. But anyway, i really want to fix this problem becaus it is really getting on my nerves. I really had no idea on where to post this thread since it occures in everything i am doing.

But the problem started 2 weeks ago, in the beginning it was just random screen freeze while i was playing Leauge of legends, and also sims 3. I could play games like crysis 3 demo on high without any problem. But for about 3 hours ago it started in every other game, and when i am doing nothing but write aswell.. I have really tried everything.. Downgrading every driver, updating every driver, reinstalling windows, take out a few RAM to see if it was a heating problem. Updated bios.. Downgraded bios.. utility tool which helped my update all my drivers, and so on.. i cant think of anything that i havent done. I have also run a memtest, and a stress test for graphic card. which had no problems.

Then i found a post, on this site, explaning the exact same problem that i have right now. And he compressed windows error log, and posted to some guy who could tell him, what the problem was, and what game/program his computer was not competible with. But since that guy is banned, i cant really contact him. So i though i could open my own thread. Can someone please help me.. I am desperet

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this.

Does sound like overheating but if the system is clean, fans running strong, you may have a bad motherboard; they can be wicked frustrating to troubleshoot. Assuming you're out of warranty, in spite of passing memory tests I'd swap out the memory modules if possible (temp borrow from another computer) to rule out glitchy memory.

If your warranty is kaput and you're comfortable opening up the laptop, this thread may be of help, but not for the faint of heart.

Thanks for the quick respons. But i have also had a program to mesure the temp running while i was playing games, to see if it was spiking high. But it sits around 60-65 degrees celsius. And yes my warranty is kaput. and last night i tried to take my laptop apparat using that video, but i accedently ruined one of the screws, so now i cant move past the point of taking out the back side, and i am only able to change the RAM.. (using a screwdriver which were to small, but i first realised to late)

I will try to change out the RAM, see if it helps.

PS. it might be a while befor i can aswere any futher because i live in denmark, and i have to go to school now. :)

If you can get hold of a Dremel try cutting a notch (slot) across the bad screw head. Otherwise a screw extractor (hardware store?). Regardless, if a RAM swap does not help, you might be screwed (sorry!)

When you reinstalled Windows, did you do a clean install (format the C: drive)...?

When you have found a fix or have more information, would you please add it to this post? Doing so may help others with similar problem. Hope your motherboard is not bad. Good luck.

    HDD socket

Have you tried swapping your HDD (SATA?) connection to a different socket on your motherboard?
Do you have another SATA cable you could use to connect your HDD to your motherboard?

Be careful as the SATA connections on HDDs are very flimsy.

Make sure the HDD power cable is correctly fitted too.

My HDD controller is a bit flaky.
Some of the SATA sockets become unresponsive after a random amount of time (days - months).
If I swap my HDD to another socket, the problem goes away (days - months).

When I upgraded my PC's RAM, I forgot to pay attention to the working SATA sockets, so I've had to swap the connection a couple of times.
I may have finally plugged it into to the working socket again (process of elimination).

Yeah, the HDD connectors may be faulty... I had the same exact issue with a WD Hard Drive... It made me buy another Seagate and problem gone. My WD is now an external HDD and works flawlessly because I attached it to an entirely new HDD external case, so the connection is no loosy and has not hangouts
