Windows 7: Laptop keeps doing Startup Repairs

Laptop keeps doing Startup Repairs

I'm not quite sure what the problem is but here is what my laptop keeps doing:

-startup repair appears when I start my laptop
-it prompts me to use a system restore point which I do use
-it says restore was successful

Then I continue to use the laptop for whatever I need and when I shut it down it does the installs new updates. Then the next day it needs to do a startup repair again. And I need to re-do those updates like before.

This has happened several times now.
Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and numerous virtual machines

Hi Seamii
Welcome to Seven Forums.
This could be a corrupted and or failing hard drive. Download this tool to determine if your hard drive is bad. There is a free trial and it will tell you the results.
Download Hard Disk Sentinel
If that checks out OK Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to repair any damaged or corrupt OS files.

I ran the program and it said my hard disk was fine, the system file checker was also done. Is there anything else that I can do?

It sounds like the updates aren't really a successful install!

In addition can you System Restore to the earliest point available, then run Updates and install them singly or in small groups to isolate the problem Update. It may not even reoccur.

I did the updates in small groups and now it seems to be fine. Thanks.
