SFC= System File Checker. Windows 7 is checking itself. It's own system files. Windows 7 does not like to hurt itself.
ROFL You all are great! I am anxious to check all of your suggestions. I will have to do that tomorrow because I am wiped out right now and need to take my sleepy pill. I will check in tomorrow after we try your suggestions.
FYI, I also ran sfc/scannow without the space, didn't know ya could. There are a lot of commands that are sensitive to spaces and capitol letters.
So I can't run the scan remotely and will have to go over to Mom's to do that. sigh
I did try the Norton ID Safe idea. It didn't work.
Once you are at your Mom's, you might consider installing TeamViewer on her computer and on your computer. That should let you do things like this scan via remote control. The folks at TeamViewer have made their app very secure, so it is safe to leave it running all of the time - and you can connect anytime (even via a smart phone). See this post for more info.
We don't mind helping you find this password problem, but it might take a while and we might never find what bit was twiddled. It might be easier for you to move the user of that computer to another user profile. You should not have to re-install most applications (probably none would need reinstalling). You would just copy the user specific start menu shortcuts, any documents, favorites and the user desktop items to the new profile. You can leave the old profile in place so that you can copy anything that you might have missed or you might need to go into that old profile from time to time if you hear that "things aren't working as they did".
Let us know which way you want to go.
I love Teamviewer! We've been using it for a while now. We are 45 minutes from Mom and Teamviewer has been a life saver.
So I'm working on creating a new user and have transferred everything. Now when turning the screen you still have to click on the user but it doesn't ask for the password. So maybe we're getting somewhere. But I just lost the connection. So Mom turned the power off, the power went out at her house or God is telling me it is time to go to bed.
I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
