    computer wont boot?

    hello.

my sister in law has a toshiba notebook and it powers up fine, however there is no movement from the fan and the display does not work?
if i connect to external monitor there is no signal either.

the HDD light comes on but i dont feel any vibration or sound

i can not get any menus up or anything at all for that matter as the screen simply does nothing.

what is the problem? is the motherboard fried? its only 8 months old however toshiba will not take it as a warranty repair as i do not have proof of purchase

Didn't your sister in law register with Toshiba when she first got the laptop? If she did that should be a valid proof of purchase. Where did she buy it? The store should have a record of the purchase.

Yes all the usual indicators light up and no the fan does not kick in at all, as for the purchasing of the laptop, it was baught of a family friend as it was an unused gift but they did not keep proof of purchase

Try another monitor. If there is CPU and HD activity and it doesn't display on either the screen or external monitor, then it is likely the display chip. You can google how to replace it.

If in doubt about the mobo, pull the RAM sticks to see if you get beeps at boot. If so check the slots for debris and reseat the sticks.
