    Hi,
I have this book and I followed the instructions in it. My printer is connected wifi to my router. The problem occurs when I install the drivers on my laptop for a wifi configuration. The installation sees the printer but in the last step, I got the message : error 0x00000704 the specified port is unknown.

    Ungaby,

When you were installing the printer using the USB cable did it ask you towards the end if you wanted to setup the printer wirelessly ? Make sure the WiFi is enabled on your printer . Make sure the printer is using IPV4 automatic unless youo want to give your printer an IP address you would have to setup manually inside the printer under network setup

Problem installing a Brother printer, error 0x00000704

Brother just answered me with a possible solution. I will try it soon and if it works, I will post this solution.

The solution proposed by Brother didn't work. Finally I used Windows to define a new wifi printer (control panel, add a new wifi printer). Windows has seen my brother wifi printer and has installed the right driver. Now, I can print.

    Solution in the manual.

I purchased a Brother MFC-J6920DW yesterday and repeatedly got this error message despite trying the solutions mentioned. The problem is in the installation program. At one point you are asked to approve changes to the firewall port settings. After this is when the message occurs. In the fine print in the manual at this point are the words "If you still have trouble with your network cnnection, add UDP ports 137 and 161.) I googled how to change the firewall port settings and proceeded to follow the intructions and changed the port settings and all was fine.

The problem I have with this is it is sloppy code writing in the program. If I approved making changes to the firewall port settings I never should have received the error message. Instead the installation program should have went on to the suggestion in the Quick Start manual. Anyone who has no experience with this sort of thing would have been lost. In addition I could find no reference to a fix for this on the Brother web site.
