Duplicate items in "open with" list

I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of programs (Real Player and KMPlayer) at different points in time but after each re-installation, said programs appear twice in the open with menu. How do I remove the duplicate?

You could try this : Download FileMenu Tools Portable 6.4 Free - Personalize your context menu - Softpedia

Be aware though, that the regular (non portable) has toolbars added/enabled by default during set up. So pay attention when installing. Having said all that! lol, This is an easy to use context menu editor. There are many others out there too. ShellExView springs to mind.

I tried both of your suggestions, but I couldn't get anywhere with either.

I couldn't figure out how to use FileMenu to remove the duplicates and when I followed the steps mentioned in that article, the programs were only mentioned once in the open with list in the registry

    Shell Extension Options?

Check the program options and if they allow it, deselected the Shell Extensions.
They might say "Add to Windows Explorer context menu" instead.

For example, this is what the Winamp Shell Extension Options look like.

Hello iMimi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition, you might see if the tutorial below may be able to help remove "Open with" items you do not want.

Open with - Clean Up and Remove Programs

    Hope this helps, :)
