Unable to boot into Windows without the DVD inserted...

    Hi,

    I have a Windows 7 & Windows 8 Dual Boot.

When I restart my PC I get:

    MBR Error 1

    Boot from Floppy.

    ...

If I insert the Windows 8 DVD, It boots up and works fine, as if there are no problems.

I tried the automatic repair on the Windows 8 DVD. It worked away and said 'repairing' after 'diagnosing' but appeared to do nothing, as the problem still persists.

    What can I do?

    Thank you guys.

In which order did you install the operating systems; Win 7 then Win8 or visa versa?

    If Win 7 was the original, see if the following helps;

Boot into Windows 7 System Recovery Options or Windows 7 System Repair Disk to Mark Windows 7 Partition Active.

Then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times until Windows 7 starts and it's boot partition holds the System Active flags.

Once Windows 7 starts, install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to add Win 8 click on the Add OS Entry tab.

If the above doesn't work you may be infected and Windows 7 often won't repair until disinfected. Work throught these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

    Hi, thanks for your help.

Unfortunately the Windows 7 repair found no faults so it didn't do anything.

Windows 7 was installed 1st, but I do use the Windows 8 selection screen when selecting the OS at the beginning.

I will look though the troubleshooting and try to get a fix, if none of that works, is my only solution to completely reinstall Windows 8?

Read on another site to go into my BIOS and reset that...and it worked!

Don't really know why, or how it happened, but everything boots up fine again without the DVD.

Your HD was likely not set first to boot in BIOS. Check now.

Please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Forums.

Run Windows 8 Automatic Repair if the problem recurs. Boot the DVD or Repair CD using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen.
