Working with a wrist strap is a real pain in the butt !
Try putting it on your wrist instead of your butt.

Sorry, Brian. I couldn't resist. I'll give myself 40 lashes with a wrist strap.

I think the video I posted earlier is pretty good with the exception that a demonstration of the wrist strap should be given, or how to otherwise ground oneself.

I know of no one who says its OK to keep the PC plugged in. I always unplug, remove a laptop battery, and hold power button to release any residual power. These are standard precautions.

I also hold back from touching any electronics without holding the case. This has always been enough for me.
Holding the power button is new to me. You're talking about all PC's right, not just laptops? And for how long?
Sorry to be so pesty but have never been inside this one yet , only had it about a year. It's one of the newer, small towers (eMachine) & I'm quite curious. It looks so small compared to the old style.

Yeah I work in those pretty regularly and it just takes extra caution, do everything in super slow motion, don't take any shortcuts or assume a screw won't drop or a spark won't jump.

Especially the part about dropping screws.

I finally just got it done I think. Only one fan that I could see & it was quite clean. Can't believe I let myself get so twitterpated over it for nothing.
