I turn it on and it starts on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, continuesly.

I took out battery, turned on only AC plugged and still do same thing.

    Hi Danshibai

It could be over heating. Do you have a can of air spray ? . Spray around the fan vents.

try ,unplugging the power cable ,remove battery. hold your power button down for 30 seconds .
put the battery back, plug in the mains and try again.

If that doesn't help then use the Win7 DVD or Repair CD to copy out your files to external and then do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything needed is provided in tutorial. Read the Special Notes for HP OWners at end to help you decide which partitions to keep.

If problems persist in the boot mode, during or after install then test your hardware using the steps at beginning of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

@Vistaking, vents are clean, fan is working and no results.

@boobah, I unplugged, removed battery did 30 sec hold and no results.

@gregrocker, how to add CD and reinstall OS if the laptop wont stay on ?

Reinstall is done from boot so you'd burn the DVD (you should have for repairs anyway) and boot it following the illustrated steps shown in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You'll need to use another PC to download and burn the DVD or write the bootable flash stick.

If you boot the DVD and it remains stable during install then the problem is with the OS. If not try to test the hardware to see if RAM or HD is responsible.

If it isn't even stable enough to test RAM or HD with the disks provided earlier then you'll need to try pulling out the RAM sticks to see if reinstalling just one, swapping, cleaning slots, etc. helps stabilize it.

Does image on screen show up and is it clear?
Is this one of the notorious HP dv6000 series laptop that because of bad architecture doesn't have enough cooling for VGA chip and because overheating and cooling down cycles soldering gets bad so you need to redo reflow soldering? or DV6500 is something different?
I have fixed one of those HP dv6000 with heat gun still works but not sure for how long.
symptoms was when on button is pressed laptop turns on lights (power, hdd etc leds) light up no image on screen and soon turns off and again turns on and off this repeats until button is pressed again..

Nope no image at all and yes all led lights turns on and off, on and off, last 2 seconds on then turns off, same as fan(thats how i know fan is working)' and HD on and off also. Its. dv6500 series.

How to redo reflow soldering ?

When you say it turns on and off repeatedly it implies you are seeing something on the screen. Is there any signal at all, like the HP logo which could mean it will operate in boot mode?

Do you get any signal when you plug in an external monitor to the VGA port on laptop?

If so it could be the monitor has come unplugged internally. Videos on the web show how to check this for your model.
