    Hibernation or sleep?

I forgot to turn off the hibernation / sleep in windows 7 and forgot to safely remove the external 3.5 desktop hard drives from it. I think my external drives need safely remove

The computer had gone into sleep and then it powered up suddenly when I pressed a key on keyboard
will this cause any bad to my hard drives and the precious data? thanks

No transferring of the data between hard drives before I was away from the computer, but I think my external drives require safely remove in which I didn't do and every thing powered up suddenly when i came back and hit the keyboard, i don't feel good

Normally I would always use safely remove hardware. But if you wern't coping any files to or from it, it should be fine. Nothing should really happen to it. You could get a lose of data if you were coping files to it. But since you wern't everything should be ok.

I would say that if everything seems fine, then it really is.

Data only gets corrupted when something is being written and the device loses power in between. If you're still in doubt, you can run a chkdsk command on the drive, that will fix things up if required.

Also, you can go to the device manager, expand disk drives, right click your HDD, go to policies tab and turn off write caching. This can further prevent loss of data and after doing this, you may simply pull your drive out once you're done using it, no need to "safely remove" it.

    Hope this helps.

The Sleep and Hibernate functions in Win7 are perfected, a great convenience and will cause little or no problems that we've seen here since before Win7 was even released.
